One Year On

It’s (just over) a year since I started work on Phase 1 so I thought I’d revisit my site survey photos in a ‘then and now’ fashion

The diagram shows where the pictures were taken.

These angles aren’t the best to show up the railway – but one of the goals was to make the railway “low impact” so I’m going to consider the fact the ‘after’ photos are rather boring as a success…

(Actually the ‘then’ photos were taken 13 months ago, whereas the ‘now’ photos were taken yesterday… but near enough….)

  1. Minor landslides – earth half covering the line in the tunnel for example – but nothing major, and thankfully no badger works – indeed the track seems to have remained pleasingly stable. Out of her three excursions so far, the Millie has had only one minor derailment.Going under an evergreen (the rhododendron) has created a sisyphean task. I’ll admit I hadn’t anticipated this, but I’m still very satisfied with the site because you can see the line from all sides, and the appearance/disappearance through the tunnels etc. just endlessly delights the kids, which is as much of a pleasure to watch as the railway itself!
