When I got my new stock boxes out at a (late 2019) garden railway meet, and explained they were from The Works, one of the other members asked me if I’d got the idea from the current* Garden Rail. In fact I hadn’t read it, but it seemed The Works boxes were all the rage, so in case my approach adds anything to that in Garden Rail I thought I’d better blog about it…

A Cab for Konrad (3)
Between last autumn and this spring I put together the cab for my Regner Konrad (see my posts on designing, and cutting and beginning assembly of the cab). This post brings progress up to date – there are several finishing touches still needed, and paint – but at the time of writing I have at least been able to run the loco with its reconfigured bodywork. A Cab for Konrad (2)
With a clearer idea of the cab I wanted to build, I started out (under the expert supervision of Mr Tony Bird) cutting pieces from 1mm brass sheet. Continue reading A Cab for Konrad (2)
3rd Tunnel
The next civil engineering project in extending towards the shed was a further tunnel. Continue reading 3rd Tunnel
A Cab for Konrad (1)
It’s been over a year and a half since I last posted on here, on the occasion of acquiring for the Moel Rhos a second steamer, a Regner Konrad. Continue reading A Cab for Konrad (1)
More Steam
Oops. I seem to have bought another live steam locomotive. I really wasn’t intending to. Continue reading More Steam
No 2 Chough
Another update from this Summer: As well as getting plates for No 1 Gannet I commissioned name plates from Narrow Planet for the Roundhouse Millie, so she is now named Chough, after another local bird I am always happy to see*. Continue reading No 2 Chough
No 1 Gannet
While Summer is for getting outside and building, the clocks going back mean the unwelcome end of daylight evenings, but also a chance to catch up on blogging. I’m not only behind a progress update on the permanent way – but also on rolling stock. So here’s a look at Moel Rhos’ loco No 1, which now has a name and a driver and some details. Continue reading No 1 Gannet
Building Bridges (1)
I’m a bit behind with reporting progress on Phase 2 but here’s the first bridge: a simple lifting bridge that, at around 9″ above ground, can easily be stepped over during running sessions but can be lifted completely out of the way to use the garden at other times. Continue reading Building Bridges (1)
Gone Visitin’
Last month, stock from Moel Rhos (the Millie and half a dozen small wagons) paid its first visit to another private railway. The Brockhampton & Umbridge Railway is a superbly detailed railway in a beautiful setting, populated by some incredibly fine modelled stock. Continue reading Gone Visitin’
